Star Trek: Discovery BTS Video: Prepare For More Adventure In Season 2

There's plenty for viewers to be excited (or to fret) about in the new season, as not only will the series pick up with the continuing adventures of Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and the rest of the Discovery crew, but it will also make room for Anson Mount as Captain Pike, and Ethan Peck as a young, decidedly scruffier-looking Spock. Given that the new additions to the cast are important parts of Star Trek lore, the series has set a high bar for itself with this new batch of episodes.

While the names Christopher Pike and Spock are sure to get the series plenty of attention, the producers of the show, including Kurtzman, as well as executive producers Olatunde Osunsamni and Heather Kadin, and stars Martin-Green and Mount would like to draw everyone's attention to just how "cinematic" the show looks. While "cinematic" can mean anything from "it looks really expensive" to "we really see Game of Thrones as our closest competitor," it's hard not to appreciate the show's impressive visuals. Season 1 of Star Trek: Discovery was no slouch in the special effects department, and season 2 seems to be following suit, if not aiming to out perform the first season in terms of pure spectacle. Whether or not the new season will have the story to go along with all those pretty visuals remains to be seen, but the hints at a new baddie known as the Red Angel may provide the narrative push the series is looking for.

With a new showrunner in place, an emphasis on adventure, and some big names in Trek history joining the cast, it looks like Star Trek: Discovery is aiming high in season 2.
